Clinical Observation on the Admitted Patients of Department of Cardiac Internal Medicine of Oriental Hospital

Abstract
Clinical observation was done on 879 cases of cerebrovascular disease which were confirmed by Brain scan or MRI and 47 cases of the other disease except cerebrovascular accident in Cardiac Internal Medicine of Oriental Medical Hospital in Kyung
Hee
University from May 1994 to April 1995.
@ES The results were as follows;
@En In this study, the ratio of male to female was 1.59:1 in whole cases, 1.63:1 in cerebrovascular accident, 0.95:1 in the other disease except cerebrovascular accident.
The age distribution showed that 60th decade, 50's, 40's, 30's, 20's were in order of frequency in the cerebrovascular accident 60's, 50's, 70's, 40's, 30's were in order of frequency in the other disease except cerebrovascular accident.
2) Among 926 cases of inpatient, cerebrovascular accident was 94.9%, the other disease was 5.1%, and the ratio was 18.7:1.
3) Among 879 cases of cerebrovascular accident, occlusive cerebrovascular disease was 79.9%, cerebral hemorrahage 17.1%, subarachnoid hemorrahge 2.2%, subdural hemorrhage 0.9%.
Among 47 cases of the other disease except cerebrovascular accident, heart disease was 17.4%, neuritis 12.8%, Bell's palsy 10.6%, brain tumor 8.5%, extrapyramidal syndrom, hydrocephalus, neurosis 6.4%, multiple sclerosis, meningioma, myelitis

hypertension and etc. 2.1%.
4) Heart and angiologic disorder was 48.3%, neurologic disorder 51.7% in whole cases.
5) Almost the duration of hospitalization was within 4 weeks in 74.0%, 2~4 weeks in 29.8%, 1~2 weeks in 25.5% in cerebrovascular accident and 2~4 weeks in 34.0%, within 1 week in 34.0% in the other disease except cerebrovascular accident.
6) The frequency of symptoms;
Motor disturbance was 92.5%, verbal disturbance 73.4%, facial palsy 31.1%, headache 23.6%, dizziness 26.1% in occlusive cerebrovascular disease and motor disturbance was 94.7%, verbal disturbance 75.3%, headache 38.0%, dizziness 33.3% facial
palsy

in cerebral hemorrhage.
Motor disturbance was 72.3%, chest discomfort 32.0%, headache 31.9%, dizziness 25.5% in the other disease except cerebrovascular accident.
7) Primary attack was 75.7%, 2nd attack was 19.6% over 3rd attack was 4.7% in ratio of recurrence of cerebrovascular accident.
8) Complications of cerebrovascular accident;
Urinary tract infection was noted frequently in 12.2%, pneumonia, bed sore, gastrointestinal bleeding in order of frequency.
9) The most common preceding disease of occlusive cerebrovascular accident was hypertension, diabetes melitus, heart disease in order of frequency. Specially hyperlipidemia was 10.7% in this studies.
10) The family history of cerebrovascular accident;
Cerebrovascular accident 29.0%, hypertension 11.5%, diabetes melitus 4.8%, tumor 1.5%.
11) The most frequent site of occlusive cerebrovascular disease was middle cerebral artery in 86.9% and vertebral basilar artery, anterior cerebral artery, posterior cerebral artery were in order of frequency.
The most frequent site of cerebral hemorrhage was basal ganglia, thalamus, subcortical, pontine, cerebellar in order of frequency.
